What happens after a breach, and your right to respond
Precautionary block, time to respond, step-by-step penalties and what happens to your payout.
When there are signs of a conduct breach, EXL reviews the case before deciding. You always get the chance to explain what happened.
Step by step
- 1
Precautionary block
If needed, the account may be blocked while the case is reviewed. The block is not the final decision.
- 2
Notice
EXL tells you which rule is involved.
- 3
Your response
You have 5 business days to send your explanation through support. The precautionary block may stay in place during this period.
- 4
Decision
EXL decides, taking into account severity, repetition and your response.
Penalties, step by step
- Voiding the period's profit.
- Closing the account.
- Closing all accounts and blocking the registration.
EXL may also disregard results obtained in breach of the rules. A failure or a payout refusal for conduct reasons always states the rule.
What about my payout?
If the penalty voids the period's profit, that period's payout is not paid. If the account is closed without you breaking a rule (for example, by an EXL decision), the payout for a cycle you already completed is guaranteed. Inactivity follows a different rule: see the Inactivity article.
Payment disputes
Talk to support first
Disputing a payment with your bank or card issuer without talking to support first suspends your accounts and holds your payouts until it is resolved. If the dispute is unfounded, EXL may close the accounts, block the registration and charge the costs.
Example
One of your accounts is blocked as a precaution on suspicion of trade copying. You receive the notice with the rule and send your explanation within 5 business days. If the explanation settles it, the account is reinstated. If not, the penalty follows the steps, based on severity.
