What “day” means in the rules

The CME session, the daily rollover, automatic flattening and what counts as a traded day.

In EXL's rules, “day” always means the CME session, which rolls over at 5 p.m. Chicago time. The daily limit, minimum days, positive days and the EOD close all follow this clock.

Why the session and not the calendar

CME futures trade almost 24 hours a day, Sunday to Friday. Using the session, not midnight, keeps the rules aligned with the market you trade, at the same time for every trader, in any country.

Rollover and flattening

  • The session rolls over at 5 p.m. Chicago time. Whatever you trade after that time already counts in the next session.
  • At 3:30 p.m. Chicago time, open positions are closed automatically. To choose your own exit price, close before that time.
  • The time difference between Chicago and Brasília changes with US daylight saving time. When in doubt, check Chicago time.

Daily result, traded day and positive day

  • Daily result: the sum of the trades closed in the session, after commissions.
  • Traded day: a session with at least one trade closed by you.
  • Automatic settlement at a contract's expiry counts in the result, but not as a traded day.
  • Positive day: a session with a result equal to or greater than your plan's minimum. A result equal to the minimum counts.

Example

You close a trade on Monday, after 5 p.m. Chicago time. It counts in Tuesday's session: it goes into Tuesday's result and Tuesday's daily limit.

Which figure counts

The dashboard shows your figures for reference. If a session doesn't match the platform's data, it stays under review until it's checked. The official figure is always the platform's.
